Technion Goes for Gold

Through the doors of the Park Hyatt hotel in midtown Toronto, on March 31, 250 young professionals assembled for the inaugural event from Generation Next.

Born out of a call to action by the The Canadian Technion Society young leadership division - specifically by Hershel Recht its National Development Director and Cheryl Koperwas, National Executive Director - the event As Good As Gold was a tremendous success. Its purpose was simply to deliver a message to all in attendance: Now more than ever it is imperative that each one of us give, if not in vast amounts our treasure to the Jewish cause of our choice then at least a part of our time and talent, to raise awareness of the organization or cause's good works.

The Technion, Israel's institute of technology is a leading Israeli educational institution. It stands at the forefront of the global network in the field of science an technology, playing a key role in advancing the country's infrastructure and its crucial defense.

The draw for the night was the opportunity to hear from one of Canada's leading philanthropists, businessmen and all around mensch, Seymour Schulich C.M. Schulich discussed his personal story and why he believes the future of Israel is dependent upon the graduates of the Technion. It is because of the Technion's aforementioned role on the world stage that Schulich chooses to give of his time, talent and once it was fully realized, a significant portion of his financial holdings.

Tikkun Olam תיקון עולם‎ and Technion

The accomplishments of Technion graduates have been recognized largely only within the industries they serve. Now with its "Spotlight on Success" The Canadian Technion Society, through its website is providing these graduates public exposure on their accomplishments.

The Canadian International Auto Show, the country's largest showcase of new and concept model vehicles, held annually at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and the SkyDome opens its doors for its 2011 event tomorrow. It seems fitting then, to make mention the work of Toronto's Gil Hadar. 

The Technion grad is making strides to advance Canada's greater adoption of "Mild Hybrid", "Hybrid", and "Electric Cars", that might soon utilize his "IEP" (Integrated Electric Pump), as well as the work being done by the company Better Place in Israel. Technion alumnus Shai Agassi is the founder and chief executive of Better Place, the leading electric vehicle services provider. Agassi and his company have been focused on one of this century's biggest challenges: moving the world from oil-based to sustainable transportation. The result of the work completed by Better Place so far is an infrastructure and intelligent network, delivering a range of services to drivers, enabling widespread adoption of electric vehicles, and optimizing energy use.

Technion to propel us further into the Final Frontier

Next Thursday January 27th, The Canadian Technion Society will once again host an exploratory look into Israel's technological advances as part of a joint program with JUMP (Jewish Urban Meeting Place) and event co-sponsor iRisemedia.com.

In an interactive discussion, titled Batteries Not Included 2, keynote speaker will be Dr. Victor Chernov. A graduate from the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at Technion, his work has focused on the rheology of gel fuels. Dr. Chernov, presently a Lyon Sachs post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto, investigates the creation and behaviour of soot in hydrocarbon-air flames.

With the human race continuing to push the boundaries on how far we can travel through space, rocket and jet propulsion is a fascinating and complex field that is based on simple, intuitive principles.

Dr. Chernov will discuss the basic physics and the principles (we promise - no equations!) behind modern, state-of-the-art aviation and space propulsion. Additionally, it will be shown how these principles are taken to the edge at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology in several ground-breaking works of water ram-jets, the aforementioned gel fuels for rocket propulsion and more.
